Né en 1980 à Séoul en Corée du Sud, Ronan-John est un Photographe-Auteur, adopté transracial vivant en France.

Depuis 2014, il documente la recherche de ses origines grâce à la photographie argentique.

Autodidacte, il expérimente ce médium pour démêler le fil de son histoire familiale et des rencontres qui jalonnent ses voyages, en quête d'identité et de parcours singuliers.

« La photographie argentique correspond à ma personnalité. Je me retrouve dans sa lenteur, son tempo. J'aime prendre du temps avec les personnes que je photographie pour mieux capter les fragments de ce qu'elles acceptent de partager avec moi. Passer du temps avec elleux, de la prise de vue au tirage (même si iels ne sont pas là physiquement), cela m’aide à les rendre plus vivants à mon souvenir et à me reconstituer une famille imaginaire, une tribu rêvée. »

Son travail d'auteur-photographe s'articule autour du thème de l'absence et du lien que chacun.e peut créer avec le monde qui l’entoure pour la combler.

Ronan-John, born in Seoul  South Korea in 1980, is a Photographer-Author, transracial adoptee raised in France.

Since 2014, he has been documenting the search for his origins through analog photography.

Self-taught, he experiments with this medium to unravel the thread of family history and encounters that happened along the way, in search of a singular identity and path.

“Film photography suits my personality. I identify with its slowness and rhythm. I like to take time with the people I photograph, to better capture fragments of what they agree to share with me. Spending time with them, from shooting to printing (even when they're not physically there) helps me bring them to life in my memory and to reconstitute an imaginary family, a dream tribe.”

His work as an author-photographer revolves around the theme of absence and the link everyone can create with the world around them to fill it.
